The City Council adopted the Integrated Development Ordinance (IDO) in November 2017. The IDO will completely update and replace the City's 1970s Zoning Code, as well as many other standalone ordinances regulating land use and zoning in Albuquerque today. According to the City Planning Department, this overhaul of our existing system is intended to:
- provide better protections for residential areas and Major Public Open Space throughout the city;
- raise the bar on development quality through predictable regulations and development processes; and
- ensure appropriate small-area regulations to protect the diverse character and history of our unique neighborhoods.
