The first Special Session of the 56th Legislature is adjourned Sine Die less than five hours after it was called to order. During this session, the House and Senate passed House Bill 1 (HB 1), commonly known as the “Feed Bill,” which typically funds the Legislature’s operations. In this Special Session, HB 1 included not only funds for the Legislature’s operations but also additional items, detailed below.
Legislature Operations
- $83,800 for the House of Representatives
- $60,400 for the Senate
- $67,700 for the Legislative Council Service
Flooding & Fire Response, Recovery and Mitigation
- $10 million for the Indian Affairs Department
- $10 million for the Energy, Minerals, and Natural Resources Department
- $10 million for the Homeland Security and Emergency Management Department
- $70 million for the Department of Finance & Administration
Assisted Outpatient Treatment Programs and Competency Diversion Pilot Programs
- $3 million for the Administrative Office of the Courts
The Legislature ignored all the public safety and crime proposals included in the Governor’s proclamation, which called the Special Session. As a result, the Governor expressed her frustration with lawmakers in a Press Release, and shared, “My promise to you is that I will not stop fighting to protect you and your families.”
The Governor has until August 7, 2024; to sign, veto, pocket-veto, or line-item veto the bill.
