Albuquerque, NM (January 22, 2025) – Local real estate professionals are speaking out against misleading data published by Realtor.com regarding the Albuquerque housing market. A recent article from the national real estate site falsely claimed that 71% of home sales in Albuquerque were cash transactions in October—a figure that has been widely debunked by local market experts.
Tego Venturi, Past President of the Southwest Multiple Listing Service, corrected the misinformation.
"The claim that 71% of home sales in Albuquerque were cash transactions in October is simply incorrect. After reviewing the actual data, the true number is 14.4%, which aligns with our annual average of 14.6%," Venturi stated.
This is not the first time Realtor.com has published questionable statistics about the Albuquerque housing market. According to Venturi, this is the second instance in recent months where the site has released misleading data. In its 2025 housing forecast, Realtor.com ranked Albuquerque dead last—100th in home price appreciation—despite strong local market indicators that suggest a much more stable and competitive environment.
"These kinds of misleading reports can create unnecessary confusion and concern for buyers and sellers," Venturi added. "Albuquerque remains a steady and accessible market with balanced price growth and demand. I encourage buyers and sellers to rely on verified local sources for accurate market insights rather than broad, generalized reports that fail to reflect what’s actually happening in our community."
The Albuquerque housing market is a vital contributor to the local economy, with the total dollar volume of home sales reaching $4.75 billion in 2021.This substantial economic activity underscores the importance of accurate information for buyers, sellers, and industry professionals.
