Albuquerque Municipal Elections will be held on Tuesday, October 6th – with early voting already open.
This Election will elect the City Council positions from Districts 2, 4, 6 and 8. Voters will also be voting on eleven general bond obligations, three amendments to the City Charter and 1/8th percent gross receipt tax increase and a bond reallocaiton measure.
All qualified registered voters within the city limits are eligiable to vote. Since this is a CABQ election, voters must present a picture ID.
For City Council positions, two seats – help by Isaac Benton of District 2 and Trudy Jones of District 8 – are unopposed. Running for District 4 are Israel Chavez and Brand Winter. Patrick Davis, Hess "Hessito" Yntema and Samuel P. Kerwin are running for District 6.
Last month, the RECPAC Trustees from GAAR and CARNM had an opportunity to interview all candidates. On behalf of both GAAR and CARNM, they have decided to support incumbent Brad Winter for District 4 and Hess "Hessito" Yntema for District 6. While all candidates were very eloquent, Mr. Winter and Mr. Yntema more strongly supported private ownership rights and real estate development issues like Smart Growth projects. Both Councilman Winter and Hessito Yntema also opposed the Fair Workweek Act.
