Restaurants; hotels can operate at 50% maximum capacity beginning June 1
On Thursday, May 28, Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham announced the details of the amended public health order that is set to take effect June 1, which includes several updates to the tourism sector.
Some of the key updates:
- Restaurants can offer indoor dine-in service at 50% maximum occupancy in accordance with COVID-Safe Practices
- Hotels can operate at 50% maximum occupancy in accordance with COVID-Safe Practices
- Drive-in theaters permitted to operate with COVID-Safe Practices in place
- Nine more state parks will open for day-use beginning May 30 with five more state parks opening for day-use beginning June 1. (click here for more info)
- Hair salons, nail salons, massage services, and related services may operate at 25% of maximum occupancy in accordance with COVID-Safe Practices
- Gyms may operate at 50% of maximum occupancy in accordance with COVID-Safe Practices
- Indoor malls may open at 25% of maximum occupancy in accordance with COVID-Safe Practices
- 14-day self-quarantine order for airport arrivals amended to permit certain business travel
These updates apply to every region of New Mexico, including the Northwest region.
What remains the same?
- Retailers must still operate at 25% maximum occupancy in accordance with COVID-Safe Practices
- Bars are still closed
- Breweries/wineries can still provide curbside pickup where permitted by license
- Face coverings must be worn in public settings
- Mass gatherings are still prohibited
