GAAR proudly supports Hispanic Heritage Month as a celebration of the rich cultural contributions and diversity that strengthen both Albuquerque and the state of New Mexico.

By honoring the heritage, history, and achievements of Hispanic and Latino individuals, GAAR reaffirms its commitment to fostering inclusion, equity, and opportunity in the real estate profession and throughout our vibrant communities. Recognizing the influence of this community helps promote a more inclusive environment for all in Albuquerque and across New Mexico.

Hispanic Heritage Month
September 15th - October 15th

Hispanic Heritage Month begins on September 15 because it coincides with the independence days of several Latin American countries:

  • Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua: These countries celebrate their independence on September 15
  • Mexico: Celebrates its independence on September 16
  • Chile: Celebrates its independence on September 18  

Hispanic Heritage Month began as a week-long celebration in 1968 under President Lyndon Johnson. In 1988, President Ronald Reagan expanded the celebration to a 30-day period, which was enacted into law on August 17, 1988. The month-long celebration gives more time to recognize the contributions of Hispanic and Latino Americans in the United States.
