The Good Neighbor Award Program not only recognizes individuals and their charities for their good work but also helps the public understand the positive impact of REALTORS® in our community.
Jim Steger was selected as a GAAR Good Neighbor for his contributions to the Child Life Program at UNM Children's Hospital. The Child Life Program's goal is to support a child’s normal routine and development so their family can focus on the child’s medical condition.
Child Life provides child development specialists and volunteers who connect the family to their care team and advocate for the family's needs. They help to ease a child's fear about treatments or procedures while guiding a child through art, play, music, and pet therapy. Specialists are available to educate a family on pain management or to help a child transition back to school.
One of Jim's main contributions has been to bring attention to the program by organizing multiple donation drives for items such as books, toys, games, or art supplies - - items that are intended to lift a child’s spirit or distract from the many invasive medical procedures a child may endure during the course of their treatment.
