This month, Albueruqe's Mayor Berry issued an official proclamation that April is "Fair Housing Month."
The proclamation was issued because April marks the anniversary of the passage of the Fair Housing Act of 1968.

Executive Order From the Office of the Mayor
Whereas, April marks the anniversary of the passage of the Fair Housing Act of 1968, which sought to eliminate discrimination in housing opportunities and to affirmatively further housing choices for all Americans; and
Whereas, the ongoing struggle for dignity and housing opportunity for all is not the exclusive province of the Federal government; and
Whereas, vigorous local efforts to combat discrimination can be as effective, if not more so, than Federal efforts; and
Whereas, illegal barriers to equal opportunity in housing, no matter how subtle, diminish the rights of all; and
Whereas, the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development, local communities, fair housing advocates, and fair housing organizations across the nation celebrate Fair Housing Month by hosting various events which promulgate beliefs that supplant housing discrimination; and
Now, Therefore, I, Richard J. Berry, Mayor of the City of Albuquerque, do hereby proclaim, April, 2016 as:
