Mayor Tim Keller
After a successful business career, Tim Keller refocused his professional life on tackling some of the biggest issues facing Albuquerque and New Mexico. Throughout his public service, from State Senator for the International District to New Mexico State Auditor to Mayor of Albuquerque, Tim has consistently challenged the status quo and developed a track record of real impact.
Tim became Mayor in 2017 and was re-elected in 2021. He serves as the city’s 82nd selected leader and 31st Mayor of Albuquerque, dating back to its founding in 1706. Mayor Tim focuses on making Albuquerque a more safe, more innovative, and more inclusive city.
Throughout his tenure, he centers his leadership around the “One Albuquerque” unity initiative, a clarion call to action to champion residents from all walks of life. His administration transformed the City’s social justice efforts by establishing the first office of Equity and Inclusion and Consumer Protection, Civil Rights, Black Community Engagement, and Native American Affairs. Tim is a staunch supporter of pro-immigrant policies.
Tim spent 15 years in the private sector, starting with Fortune 500 Companies and then Tribal governments. He also lived for three years in Cambodia where he ran the nation's first technology company focused on bringing living wage employment opportunities to landmine victims and trafficking survivors.
Tim Keller was born and raised in Albuquerque and is an Eagle Scout and Kellogg Foundation Race Equity Fellow. Following graduation from St. Pius X High School, he attended the University of Notre Dame where he studied Art History. He then went on to earn an MBA with honors from the Harvard Business School.
In his personal time, Tim — a former quarterback in high school — still enjoys playing football and even suited up in Albuquerque’s professional Arena Football team’s 2018 home opening game. A heavy metal enthusiast, Keller was profiled as the “#MetalMayor” by the New York Times and has introduced a number of bands live on stage in Albuquerque. Tim advocates for Dyslexia awareness after being diagnosed and re-learning various reading skills as an adult. He lives in Albuquerque with his wife and their two young children.
