Fishers, Ind., a suburb of Indianapolis, nabbed the number one spot as this year’s best place to live in Money Magazine's 30th annual list.
This was the first year Money Magazine teamed with realtor.com® to leverage the site’s housing market data in compiling its list. The magazine evaluated 2,400 places and factored in eight categories: cost of living, economy, education, housing, crime, convenience, cultural and recreational amenities, and an overall sense of pleasantness.
Money Magazine notes that the rising demand for urban living has pushed up prices for homes in cities, prompting more people to move to the suburbs in search of affordability. As such, they focused on municipalities with a population between 10,000 and 100,000 for the list.
“Our final list represents the best of America’s towns and cities: places that offer economic opportunity, a sense of community, and access to amenities that make life more enjoyable,” says editor Adam Auriemma.
The top 10 best places to live in 2017, according to Money Magazine, are:

- Allen, Texas
- Monterey Park, Calif.
- Franklin, Tenn.
- Olive Branch, Miss.
- Dickinson, N.D.
- Lone Tree, Colo.
- North Arlington, N.J.
- Schaumburg, Ill.
- Bozeman, Mont.
