More Tips on Renewing your Real Estate License

This is a continuation of "Confused about the License Renewal Process?"

Renewal Date
A New Mexico real estate license expires every three years. Your license renewal deadline is the last day of the month, following your birth month. For example; if your birthday is November 14th – your license renewal deadline is December 31st. (Please note, newly licensed broker's first license cycle may vary depending upon the license issue date.)

Documentation Required:

  1. Continuing Education:  Certificates for a minimum of 36 hours of completed courses. Associate and Qualifying Brokers will submit documentation based on each license requirement.
  2. Fingerprinting:  Brokers renewing their license through 2019 must submit a fingerprint certification form and a printed receipt from Cogent ID.
  3. Errors and Omissions Insurance Policy: Required for all Active Brokers.
  4. License Fee:  $270 payable by credit card or electronic check.
  5. Supervisory QB Affidavit Required by all Qualifying Brokers responsible for supervising Associate Brokers.

Online Renewal Process
All New Mexico real estate license renewals must be submitted online, NOT in person. The NMREC manages all real estate license renewals through a 3rd party online portal. GAAR does not manage any portion of your license renewal process.

Update Contact Information
It is your responsibility to keep your email address updated with the NMREC! Contact NMREC Licensing Manager, Roxanne Romo with any email changes at Roxanne.Romo@state.nm.us.

60 Days Prior to License Expiration
NMREC will send an email to your email address on file with a link and registration code for your renewal. If you do not receive an email 60 days before your license expires, check your junk or spam folder BEFORE contacting the NMREC at 505-222-9820.

Tips for Renewing Online:

  1. START EARLY. Missing your license renewal deadline is expensive and can hinder your business activities. Allow a minimum of 7 days to process your renewal. Check your renewal status.
  2. Ensure your contact information is current.
  3. Have all your documentation ready.
  4. Use Internet Explorer 9 or greater as your browser. The site only works with Internet Explorer.
  5. Visit https://mylicense.rld.state.nm.us/Login.aspx to begin.
    - Create username and password if this is your first online renewal
    - Enter your license number and registration code (emailed from NMREC)
  6. Do not use the back button to correct mistakes. Continue your application and make a note of any corrections needed. NMREC staff will make those corrections to your application and documents.
  7. After you complete your online renewal, you will need to send ONE attachment that is a scan of all your documentation to nmrec.ceu@state.nm.us. Your ONE scanned document will include copies of:
    - NMREC Online Renewal Receipt
    - CE Certificates
    - E & O Insurance Policy
    - Completed Fingerprint Certification
    - Receipt from Cogent ID
    - If needed, include a note detailing any corrections the NMREC may need to make on your application.
    - And if applicable, QB Supervisory Affidavit (and additional CE Certificates)
