In 2018, the GAAR Board of Directors formed a Building PAG to determine the feasibility of purchasing the vacant building adjacent to the REALTOR® Office property. The building at 1645 University Blvd had been vacant for a decade and was an eyesore to the surrounding neighborhood.
In 2019, the GAAR Board approved the purchase of the property at a price below previous values.
Today, the Building PAG continues to work tirelessly to ensure the 1645 University project provides the maximum value for GAAR Members. Over time, this long-term investment and revitalization of University Blvd will increase parking capacity, property value and add financial stability by generating non-dues revenue for the Association.
The GAAR Building PAG consists of the following Members:
- Don Martindell, Chair
- Ian Caird
- Sherry Fowler
- John Lopez
- Paul Wilson
Originally, it was thought that the Association could utilize the space as an event venue or training center, however, after considerable deliberation and evaluation by the PAG, GAAR Executive Committee, and the GAAR BOD, it was determined that the best use of the property would be for leasable office space. SVN Walt Arnold was then selected to represent GAAR in securing tenants.
After a request for proposal period, FBT Architects and AIC Construction were selected to complete the project.
Today, fencing has been installed to link the two properties and parking lots together. Construction is now underway to renovate the two-story, 7,000 square foot building to a warm shell for potential tenants.
The expected completion date is the end of September 2021 and It is anticipated the property will be available for lease beginning October 2021.
