Local municipalities have rules that regulate the placement of real estate signs, open house signs, and property directional signs. Rules frequently change so become familiar with the entities that regulate the sign ordinances in the areas where you work to avoid replacing or retrieving signs that may have been confiscated. Below is the path to locating regulations for our most common areas - click the last link to skip straight to the rules.
Albuquerque
- City of Albuquerque > Departments > Planning > Codes, Standards, and Regulations > Integrated Development Ordinance (amended December 2022). View Page 374, Section 5-12(I) TEMPORARY SIGNS
Rio Rancho
Village of Corrales
Smaller jurisdictions may have ordinances that require permits for real estate listings:
Los Ranchos de Albuquerque
- Village of Los Ranchos > under Departments > Planning and Zoning > Forms and Permits > Sell a House Parcel Permit
Homeowner Associations, etc.,
Many gated areas and communities are governed by a Homeowner Association with specific rules outlining the types of real estate signage allowed in their neighborhoods. If you are actively working in one of these areas, check with their local governing board or covenants to ensure you are following their rules for real estate signage.
Finally, municipality requirements differ from SWMLS rules and SWMLS does not have an opinion on the size of signs.
