
Recycle your holiday tree in Bernalillo, Sandoval, and Valencia Counties to help create mulch for parks and gardens, reducing landfill waste and giving back to the environment. Tree recycling promotes sustainability and keeps our communities green and beautiful! Below is a list of locations where you can recycle your tree.
City of Albuquerque
The Solid Waste Management Department (SWMD), Parks and Recreation, and PNM are teaming up to offer residents a chance to recycle their real Christmas trees. The program kicks off on December 26, 2024, and runs through January 8, 2025. Trees may be dropped of between 8:00AM and 4:30PM at the following locations:
- Eagle Rock Convenience Center, 6301 Eagle Rock NE
- Ladera Golf Course, 3401 Ladera NW,
- Montessa Park Convenience Center, 3512 Los Picaros SE (closed on Thursdays and Fridays)
PNM Vegetation Management crews and Parks and Recreation staff will grind trees into mulch chips, which can provide a better growing environment for plants and residential landscapes. Residents can pick up the mulch chips free of charge while supplies last.
Please remove all bags, tree stands, decorations and lights from trees before dropping them off to be mulched. Artificial trees will not be accepted. Limit of five trees per resident, no commercial customers.
Bernalillo County
BernCo’s offering free Christmas tree recycling starting Jan. 2 through Jan. 15! Free mulch will also be made available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Residents can drop off trees from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the following locations:
- East Mountain Transfer Station, 711 NM-333, Tijeras, NM 87059
- Former Bernalillo County Housing Department location (Vacant lot), 1900 Bridge Blvd SW, Albuquerque, NM 87105
- Paradise Hills Little League Park, 9801 La Paz Dr, Albuquerque, NM 87114
- Ben Greiner Field, 10650 Wilshire Ave. NE, Albuquerque, NM 87122
Please note that only natural trees free of lights, ornaments, and decorations will be accepted.
Sandoval County
Recycle your holiday tree from December 26, 2024 through January 6, 2025.
- Rio Rancho Sports Complex (between 7 am - 9 pm), 3501 High Resort Blvd SE
- Sandoval County Landfill (between 8 am–5 pm), 2708 Iris Rd.
Trees must be free of decorations, lights, tinsel, and stands, and artificial trees will not be accepted.
Valencia County
The City of Belen will be offering FREE Christmas Tree Recycling Monday – Friday from 7am – 4pm.
- You can drop your tree off at the old recycling center at the corner of Main St and Impala Dr.
Please note – Due to the upcoming New Year’s holiday, All City Offices (including this recycling program) will close at noon on Friday December 30th and remain closed through Monday, January 2nd reopening on Tuesday, January 3rd.
